Rudy Cocchiarella, a transplanted native of New Jersey, is now based on picturesque Cape Anne in Massachusetts, the location of many long established art colonies. He was initiated and trained in the classical traditions of oil painting in his teens in studies at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art. His attention to detail and especially color was focused through his studies in Engineering and Fine Arts at Princeton University. This classical painting ethic was further developed in studies at the Spanish School, while living in Madrid, Spain. His mastery of detail is the result of the type of training instilled in his work during this early period and developed in his later years.
Cocchiarella has lived, worked and painted many parts of the world, including Europe, North Africa, South America, Southeast Asia, the Bahamas, the Canadian Arctic, Greenland, Iceland, Alaska, and eastern/western areas of the United States. Settling in picturesque Gloucester, Massachusetts in 1969, he devoted himself to capturing the changing environment of the marine waterfront and seascapes of Cape Anne. In the 1980’s he found great interest in his paintings of winter activities in Colorado and scenes of the Southwest. Continuing trips to Colorado and the Southwest have produced paintings well received by art collectors.
Revisiting Venice, Italy in 1992, he completed a series depicting activities on canals and plazas.
Noting the increasing pressures of development rapidly changing the character and quaintness of Cape Anne, he has embarked on a program of painting in oil existing waterfront scenes, and waterfowl of the Cape Anne area. His paintings capture local marine subjects with background detail and colors associated with the unique Cape Anne seasons, preserving the scene on canvas.
The paintings of Rudy Cocchiarella have been evoking delighted responses from both natives and visitors to Cape Anne.
His paintings are hung in private and commercial collections in New England, New York Metropolitan Area, the Midwest, Southwest, Rocky Mountain Area, Texas, Florida, California, and Massachusetts.
