Drawing and painting have been life-long pursuits for Jeff Weaver. A Massachusetts native, he visited Gloucester frequently as a youth and saw the historic working seaport as an ideal location to pursue his interest in art, as have so many before him.
Jeff moved to Gloucester in 1982 - his first year as a student at the Museum School in Boston. He spent much time on the waterfront rendering the local scenery in various media. The following year, Jeff had a one-man show of woodcut prints and drawings at Harvard Coop Gallery, Cambridge.
For over thirty years, weathered houses, packing plants, fishing boats and those who work with them, and local marine and street scenes have all served as subject matter for his art.
He paints in a representational style, utilizing strong light and dark values, line, and animated brushwork to create dynamic compositions. He has combined these pictorial elements with his interest in local maritime history as his recent series of paintings illustrate, depicting the rigors of 19th and early 20th century dory fishing in the North Atlantic.
Jeff is an award winning painter. He is a member of the North Shore Arts Association, and the Rockport Art Association. His work is in public as well as many private collections.
